10 Reasons to Declutter and Organise your home

Why declutter?  Why organise?  Here are ten great reasons why you should consider decluttering and organising your home.

Is it time to declutter your home?

Save time

Not enough time in the day? Imagine if everything in your home was neatly organised and you could put your hands on whatever you wanted immediately. No more time spent searching for the car keys. No more time spent rummaging through paperwork in an attempt to find a bill that is overdue. If you find yourself constantly wishing you had more time, decluttering and organising your home may be the answer.

Save money

Who doesn’t like to save some money. You will be amazed at the things of value you uncover when decluttering your home. You may discover Unworn clothes, Store Gift Cards, Makeup, Perfume, or my favorite plain old cash. Your home is a treasure trove of items waiting to be discovered. You may also uncover items of value that you no longer have use for. These can also be sold for a tidy profit. Once you start making money from your decluttering mission you will be motivated to continue.

Discover a sense of calm

Your home should be a place where you are at peace and can relax. It is very difficult to do this when you are constantly thinking of a room that needs sorting or paperwork that hasn’t been touched in months. Once you have decluttered your home and are truly organised these thoughts will become less and less. Of course you will have planned times to do your chores to maintain your organised home. But you will also have planned time where you can relax without worry or guilt that you should be doing something else instead.

Lead by example

It is easy not to take the lead when it comes to starting on a journey of decluttering. However by taking the opposite approach you will become a role model and inspiration. Once you start your family will soon see the progress you are making and the benefits it is providing for everyone. By the time you are finished you will not only empower yourself but your family also. This is especially important for your children who will take your examples with them for the rest of their lives.

Increase your happiness

People who declutter and organise there home are often filled with a great sense of achievement and accomplishment. As Franklin D. Roosevelt once said “Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort”. Like a big jigsaw puzzle, completing the challenge of decluttering and organising your home will give you the thrill of creative effort and the pleasure of achievement.

Make your house a home

How many family pictures do you have sitting in a box somewhere?  How many collectible items do you have that are not on display and are simply gathering dust in a forgotten corner? Unused these are just things. However on display in your home they then take on the meaning you initially gave them. They in turn will turn your house into a home. A home your can be proud of.

Rediscover your passions

Often your hobbies and passions are the first to give way when clutter takes over. Your craft supplies will become messy and lost. Your music will get hidden with all the other items you have collected. Then it becomes too difficult to pursue your hobbies. A properly organised home will have allocated spaces for the things you care about the most.  You will have easy access to the items you need and the space to re-ignite and pursue your passions.

Become punctual

It’s easy to become consistently late though no fault of your own when you are not organised. When you don’t have a plan for your day events creep up on you and before you know it you are already running late and you can’t even find the things you need to take with you. It is however very easy to break this habit with some simple organisational skills. Become punctual and show yourself to the world in your best light.

Achieve your life goals

We all have goals in life. Often these goals become dreams, and excuse after excuse gets put in-front of these dreams preventing them from seeing the light of day. Living in a decluttered and organised space is one of the best ways I know of removing these excuses. All of a sudden you will find yourself with the time and skills to start achieving your life goals. You don’t  have to let stuff get in the way of your true purpose in life.

Learn to be grateful

Society today bombards us with reasons to buy more and more things.  It makes it easy for us to get caught up in the thrill of a new purchase and discard old items that performed perfectly well. Decluttering can help you break this cycle as you will find a new appreciation for the things you already have.
